Poetry

"Beauty in Disguise"
By Tiamo De Vettori

Sometimes a hint
Can be so loud
Would things be different
If we were listening in the first place

Because it's hard
To wrap my arms around
The idea that it takes great loss
For humanity
To show its real side

Consequently
The world shrinks
And distant corners
Become the center piece
For our own definition

Is it not obvious
That nature
Shows its temper
When we become
Like neglecting parents

And in this time
Perhaps we see
That support sometimes means
More than prayers

Could it be
That pain and ugliness
Present us the opportunity
To be beautiful
To each other

To awaken
And realize
That we are all related
No matter how hard
We try to deny it

So what can I do
When our world
Has been attacked
By an unknown aggressor

Instead of clinching my fist
I embrace the invitation
For me to be better
And work even harder
At making a difference

Maybe all it takes
Is a smile
Or an expanding compassion
That's given well before
Cries for help

How do I make sense of non-sense
I think kindness is the answer
Because love often shows up
As beauty in disguise
